The Dubai Gold Souk is famous all over the world and almost every traveler should have heard of or will know about it the moment they land there. The city really deserves its nickname “The City of Gold” because no other gold market in the world matches Dubai’s gold market, neither in its beauty nor in the abundance of jewelry on display.
Located in one of the narrow lanes in the old Deira district, the Dubai Gold Souk is a place that any tourist should be able to easily locate.
If you are still not sure how to get there, you can always bangles in Dubai ask the hotel receptionist for directions. Your first visit to this market will be more surreal than you probably imagined.
As Westerners, we’re a little used to the stores with air conditioners and closed climates, well; If this was your shopping experience in the past, then you are on the verge of a big surprise.
The Gold Souk is somewhat of an open-air market, made up of more than 300 jewelers. So make sure to organize your visit to this market accordingly. It’ll take you some time to window-shop through them all. The jewelry on display generally consists of the usual bracelets, amulets, good luck amulets, necklaces, pendants, and even some toe bracelets.
But this is also where you’ll also buy gold in bullion form, but make sure that like any other market in the world, you’ll also find suspicious traders here (although my experience, not many of them). There have been instances of artificial gold being transferred to the customer as the real McCoy, so make sure that while purchasing your items, watch out for the token, the circle around the “H”.
The best time to visit the markets may be in the late afternoon when the sun is not too harsh on the skin. If you are staying in a beachfront hotel, you will be happy to know that these hotels offer their guests free bus trips to Deira Souks, which are tours that usually take place in the afternoon. You will be able to shop here even after sunset as most of these stores are generally open until 10 pm as it seems that most tourists only head to these stores after sunset.
The main (and biggest) attraction of the Dubai gold market over any other market is the low price charged there. Compared to markets elsewhere like Europe, the price here is up to 60% lower! This is madness! Now, this is something we can be proud of for our friends and family anywhere in the world.
When shopping at the gold market, try to use cash instead of credit cards, as you will be able to negotiate better. Cash is king and will give you bargaining power with the merchant. I am sure you will have a great time going to the gold souks in Dubai. Make sure you get a ton of gold at very cheap rates!
